Music Pixx: Citizen Cope, Ingrid Michaelson

April 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Throw up your fisticuffs, because it’s time to crank on the PMP jukebox and start some shit. If your at work, turn the volume to full blast. And when your boss comes over, just look him in the eyes and say, “You wanna fight about it?”.

The first pick comes from a personal favorite artist of mine, Citizen Cope. Cope, aka Clarence Greenwood, is a soulful, reggae-influenced white guy whose music really crosses genres…from rock to hip hop to anything in between. If you’ve never heard of him, check out this song and his album “The Clarence Greenwood Recordings” (2004)..it’s off the chain.

This is a video for his song “Let the Drummer Kick” off of his self-titled debut album (’02). It’s not a new song (or really his best), but it is a new video. And it’s really, really cool.

CITIZEN COPE - “LET THE DRUMMER KICK”

I wish what I wrote looked that cool.

This next track is from an up and coming artist named Ingrid Michaelson. She’s a NYC-based indie pop artist. Mix a lot of Feist, and tad of Death Cab, and you’ll get an idea of what she sounds like.

This song comes off of her album “Girls and Boys” (2007). And it’s pretty tasty. In a soft, unmanly way.

INGRID MICHAELSON - “THE WAY I AM”

Her and Eminem should have a “The Way I Am” battle royale. I got ten bucks on Ingrid.
